HEAVEN AND EARTH SCULPTURE, 1982
Andrew Logan is a sculpture of international stature who delights in creating art wherever he finds inspiration.
This sculpture was created by Andrew Logan in 1982 and is named Heaven and Earth. It has been part of the Museum's collection for many years but is now being released for sale online. An iconic and popular piece that can be seen in Andrew's book An Artistic Adventure, Heaven and Earth has been exhibited numerous times in locations across the world, memorably in Singapore for their British Week in the 1980s.
Heaven and Earth - or GOLDEN EGG HEAD as Andrew lovingly calls it - takes the shape of a woman's face with an egg emerging from the top of her head and one in between her eyes. Created in 1982, it is a precursor to Andrew's large scale Cosmic Egg sculpture, which was created around the same time, completed in 1983. This sculpture can be seen as giving birth to, or being born of, the Cosmic Egg.
The hair has been created using Andrew Logan's signature cracked mirror fragments as well as silver crystals of various sizes and shapes; the space between these elements is encrusted with silver glitter. The eyes and eyebrows of the sculpture have been created in a similar way; silver crystals have been set into the sculpture in a line to create eyebrows, six on one side seven on the other, a single iridescent crystal creates the pupil of each eye with the whites of the eye made of glitter. The eyes are finished with a sprinkling of fine silvery glitter to create eye shadow. The earrings have been made using a number of red crystals set amongst orange glitter.
The egg between the subjects eyes was inspired by the bindi. In metaphysics, this is considered to be the dot or point at which creation begins and may become unity. It is also described as "the sacred symbol of the cosmos in its unmanifested state".
The egg featured on the top of the sculpture can be removed and opened up to reveal a baby inside - which was found by Andrew on his life-changing trip to Egypt.
The egg is created using cracked mirror fragments set over black resin, the fragments also feature on the inside of the egg. There are also a number of orange crystals amongst the cracked mirror fragments.
Andrew Logan has signed, titled and dated the piece in paint onto the base of the sculpture. The approximate dimensions of this sculpture are 32cm in height by 10cm in width by 18cm in depth at the widest points. When removed the egg measures 12cm including the baby's head by 7cm. The weight of the sculpture is 1.7kg.
Due to the high value, weight and delicate nature of the sculpture it requires specialist shipping. A trackable, signed-for delivery within the UK will cost in the region of £200, however, if the sculpture is collected from Berriew, or a cheaper delivery alternative becomes available, a refund will be offered for postage and packaging. International shipping will be calculated on an individual basis.
